Abstract
This paper attempts to discuss the development of sport sciences in three steps: first, the historical development of sport and the sports sciences is reviewed; second, predictions about the potential future developments are made; and third, supporting evidence for the suggested developments is provided. The relevant conclusions of this projection or speculation can be summarized as follows: 1. The discipline of sports science should or will expand to a broader discipline of movement science. 2. The future discipline of movement science has a unique opportunity to become an important contributor to the well-being of mankind. Verf.-Referat
