Abstract
37 Swimmers (N1 = boys, N2 = girls) who are 10 to 13 years old are involved in this research, 18 of them are members of competition teams (N1c and N2c) as well as 18 others N3 (14 to 17 years) 8 of them are also involved in competition (N3c). The analysis of their responses at the CPQ Cattell test demonstrates clearly that the N1, N2 swimmer group presents a real tendency to abstraction, perseverance and pugnacity. These trends were not present in the sedentary group. Concerning the HSPQ test the swimmers (N3) present a higher level of moderation and efficiency than the sedentary grup. The children interested in competition are more excitable, more active, more calculator and shrewd. The high correlation between the performances in sprint (100 m crawl) and the score on the F adaptation test demonstrates that the children who have the best results in sport have the best adaptation status, so we are allowed to conclude that these comportemental traits are very important for the coach, it is quite necessary for him to study and to appreciate these characteristics of his young swimmers.
