Abstract
Already for several decades, nutrition has appeared to be very popular, especially among endurance athletes. In food carbohydrates are the most documented, aside from vitamines and trace elements, because they are the most important energy fuel in endurance exercise. Concerning fat or lipids, it seems to be important that the consumption is very low. However, especially in endurance athletes who are not able to perform on several consecutive days, very low cholesterol and triglycerid concentrations in the blood were found, as were a delayed return of the testosterone concentration to base-levels due to the amount of exercise occurred in those athletes. The cholesterol concentration and triglycerid concentration are too low to warrant sufficient steroid synthesis, which might impair physical performance or in other words, cause a delay in recovery.
