Abstract
This study examined student perception of the operative goals of intercollegiate athletics. 450 students across four Nigerian universities participated in the study. Data for the study were collected using the Scale of Athletic Priorities which isolates nine operative goals of intercollegiate athletics. Results show that students ranked entertainment, achieved excellence, transmission of culture and finance as the four highest goals. The rankings were also analysed by subgroups based on sex and competitive sport experience. The results showed no subgroup differences in goal ranking and there was also no interactive effect of sex and competitive sport experience. Verf.-Referat
