Abstract

In 22 sportsmen (middle and long distance runners and skiers) the alterations of blood cortisol and corticotesterone levels were recorded during 30, 60 and 90 min work sets on bicycle ergometer and during cross country runs for 33 km. If the oxygen uptake amounted to 55-70 VO2max, and the heart rate was 150-170 beats per min the increase of duration of exercise above 30-40 min led to a transition from the initially augmented blood cortisol level to preexercise values in the second hour of exercise. The initial increase of blood cortisol level was in accordance with the increase of blood lactate concentration. However, at the end of 60 and 90 min exercises the blood lactate concentration was negatively correlated with the initial increase of cortisol level. Verf.-Referat
