Abstract

Aforty-item questionnaire was administered to 358 Year 12 students from four high schools in the Illawarra Region on the South Coast of New South Wales. The comprehensiveself-report questionnaire covered student attitudes to physical education, academic commitments, stress, leisure time, and asked them to identify five preferred sporting or exercise activities. This article reports on stress, physical education and academic commitments. Two other articles have been written on the physical activity interests and Physical Education and the Year 12 student. The results are as follows: A total of 49.4 of students believed that too much emphasis is placed on academic studies with 95 of students repaorting that they would suffer from stress during the year. A total of 81 of students believed physical education and exercise could be beneficial in reducing stress. The implications of these findigs suggest that students in Year 12 believe that exercise and Physical Education are needed to help in the reduction of stress. Verf.-Referat
