Abstract
This study was developed to identify the problems and sources of dissatisfaction in terms of their perceived importance and prevalence as seen by coaches of female sports. The study compared the repsonses of male and female secondary school coaches to twenty-eight scenarios that described problems or sources of dissatisfaction that confronted the coaches in the performance of their coaching responsibilities of female sports programs. The data were collected by administering an instrument that contained the twenty-eight scenarios and two 5-point Likert scales related to importance and prevalence. The data revealed some commonality among gender related rankings of top ten and bottom ten scenarios on both scales; however one-way MANOVA F(28,424) = 16.08, p < .0001 revealed statistically significant differences between males and females on the importance scale, and one way MANOVA F(28,424) = 18.24, < .0001 revealed statistically significant differences between males and females on the prevalence scale. Significant gender related differences were followed-up with a stepwise discriminant analysis on the twenty-eight variables. Rankings of scenarios and scenarios that differed significantly by male and female coaches are presented and various possible causes for the differences are discussed. Verf.-Referat
