Abstract

Cystic fibrosis is a disease usually terminated by death, before the second decade of life. As there were unfavourable prognosis the recent idea of rehabilitation was considered at least utopian. Although physiotherapy of the chest, aiming at rehabilitation of lung mechanisms and decreasing mucous secretion in the respiratory tract, was applied, no complex rehabilitation tending to improvement of the quality of life of the ill child was applied. A review of therapeutic modern procedures used in rehabilitation of children with cystic fibrosis has been presented in this article. New tendencies in applying physiotherapy of the chest have been discussed, various forms of effort therapy and its influence on principle breathing parameters and maximum oxygen consumption have been presented, and principles of conducting effort therapy have been shown.
