Abstract
In recent years, the structure and process of teacher education has received considerable attention from the media, the general educational community and the physical education profession. Each of these groups has stressed the need for reform in teacher education and has vigorously debated the process and product of such reform. This article examines the general and physical education literature on this topic, outlines the recently developed elementary and secondary education teacher education programs at the University of British Columbia, and emphasizes the need for increased dialogue and future research in physical education teacher education across Canada.
