Abstract
This paper offers a brief synthesis of curriculum development in physical education in Canada over the last fifty years in an attempt to generate a scenario of physical education in the future. To this end, the Toffler analogy of three waves of societal change has been used as a framework for the development of a conceptual analysis of physical education in schools. It is theorized that at this time curriculum development in physical education in Canada is experiencing a collision of waves that can be explained in terms of an enduring 2nd wave of curriculum theory and a challenging 3rd wave of curriculum innovation. If we do not respond to the need for change, physical education as we know it today will not exist into the 21st century in Canadian schools. The time to act is now Verf.-Referat
