Abstract

Physically normal, athetoid and spastic cerebral-palsied children were asked to judge their own body size and the size of an object in terms of whether they could pass through a door-shaped aperture. The normal children were significantly more accurate on these tasks than the athetoid children who were in turn more accurate than the spastics. Within the cerebral-palsied groups, degree of motor handicap was not a good predictor of amount of perceptual difficulty. The results are discussed in relation to current debate about the role of motor experience in cognitive development. Verf.-Referat
