| abstract |
For the past decade older adults have been encouraged by the American Heart Association, the Presidents Council on Fitness, and American Association of Retired Persons, to name a few, to become more physically active. Older adults are exercising more and as a consequence older exercisers now represent a unique and new patient group in rehabilitation. Aging processes occur at different individual rates and times, which has considerable impact on exercise prescription and the treatment of athletic injuries. Five age-related changes normally occur with advancing years that predispose the older athlete to injury and make it necessary to prescribe exercise carefully. Verf.-Referat |
