Abstract

The focus of the lecture is on the regulation of the hormonal response to exercise and on training induced adaptations to exercise. We have proposed that the control of the hormonal response to exercise is similar to that of respiration and circulation including feed forward stimmulation from motor centers in the brain as well as feed back stimulation based on changes in working muscles and in internal milieu. We have provided evidence that physical training increases the capacity to secrete epinephrine causes a sports adrenal medulla. This adaptation may have great impact on performance. We have also provided evidence that in healthy subjects training decreases the capacity to secrete insulin. This adaptation makes sense since the effect of insulin is directly related to the preceding level of physical activity. In light of these reasonable adaptations the well known adaptations in the pituitary-gonade axis should not be counteracted by administration of gonade hormones in substituting doses. Verf.-Referat
