Abstract

Fifty male athletes were evaluated for their ability to generate anaerobic power via 4 commonly used tests. The test included the Margaria-Kalamen test (MK), vertical jump (VJ), standing broad jump (SBJ), and 40-yd dash. Factor analysis isolated two power components, one dealing with speed and one associated with mass. The VJ, SBJ, and 40-yd dash loaded under the speed factor, while the MK and VJ power (Lewis nomogram) tests loaded under the mass factor. Anaerobic power tests, therefore, cannot be used interchangeably when evaluating subjects. An underlying skill phenomenon might be present in these tests which could confound interpretations of results. Verf.-Referat
