Abstract
This paper describes two case reports of muscle compartment syndrome. The first has not been previously reported and concerns a gradual onset of symptoms and signs affecting levator scapulae bilaterally in a swimmer. The second relates an acute onset muscle compartment syndrome in the forearms of a kayaker. Fasciotomy produced relief of symptoms in both patients. Muscle compartment pressures recorded at rest with symptoms and signs showed an inconsistency which implied that any recommendation for fasciotomy could have been made on clinical grounds alone.
