Abstract
All fractures and dislocations of parachute jumpers on the island Texel during the seasons 1983, 1984 and 1985 were retrospectively evaluated. Mechanism, nature and treatment of 83 injuries were analysed. Ankle, lower leg and vertebral column fractures were most frequently seen: respectively in 48 (58), 8 (10) and 7 (8) patients. Most injuries occurred in inexperienced jumpers at the touchdown. The landing speed is comparable with a jump from 1,5m high, but estimating the distance to the ground is a problem for beginners. To reduce injuries, training in estimating the distance to the ground, as well as a good landing technique are important. Verf.-Referat
