Abstract
Effects of physical exercise on the concentration of serum lipoprotein and apolipoprotein, particularly on the composition of high-density lipoprotein, were investigated in this study. Subjects consisted of 8 long distance runners (mean age 18.6 years), 7 cross-country skiers (mean age 20.6 years), 10 alpine skiers (mean age 20.5 years), 8 weightlifters (mean age 20.4 years), and 11 age matched sedentary students as a control group. Apoprotein were measured by a single radial immunodiffusion method. Long distance runners and cross-country skiers showed lower LLD-cholestrol values and the higher level of HDL-cholesterol, HDL-phospholipid, and the ratio of HDL-cholesterol to total cholesterol compared with control group. Concentrations of HDL-cholesterol to total cholesterol ratio were lower in the weightlifters than in the control subjects. Serum apoprotein A-I concentration and Apo A-I/Apo A-II ratio were higher in top athletes than in sedentary controls. From these results it seems that vigorous physical exercise may influence independently serum lipis and apoproteins. Verf.-Referat
