Abstract

Several new topics are presented in Volume II. Section I, on administrative concerns, encompasses information that is applicable both to the persons just completing formal education and to those who have worked for years in the field. All chapters are authored by professionals who have dealt with such concerns as physician involvement, equipment selection, program administration, and payment for services. Sections II and III present applied physiological principles balanced against the reality to patient care in a clinical environment. These sections expand upon the first volume of Cardiac Rehabilitation: Exercise Testing and Prescription to include medical problems associated with early intervention, prescribing exercise for the well-conditioned patient, upper extremity exercise, energy cost of occupational work, counseling for leisure activity, the importance of behavioral intervention, and the multifaceted approaches to exercise testing. Section IV addresses the choice of care for patients with coronary heart disease. Use of medications and of therapeutic intervention and the balance of providing both are well outlined. aus dem Vorwort
