Abstract

The definition of the Biorhythm as conceived by Fliess, Svoboda and Teltscher, and a short historical review about the related research are done. The characteristics of the three hypothethical rhythms, which should compose the so called Biorhythm, are also presented. The authors report that there are contrary viewpoints between different investigators about this theory, which is composed only on individual data, without a sufficient statistical documentation. They agree that these physiolocial processes occur in shorter or longer intervals but there are considerable inter- and intraindividual deviations. For this statement they quote Ashoff (1970) who documented in subground bunker trials that the periods of many of the biological cycles vary from man to man, and that the synchronization of the intrinsic watch is essentially determined by terrestrial and social pacemakers. On base of these facts they doubt the existance of constant and for years invariable cycles of the biorhythm as told by the supporter of this theory. The authors couldnt state any proof of the coincidence of the personal records performances in different track and field events with the optimum constellation of the three rhythms, using the original method of count up to the Biorhythm. The statistic mass was N = 50. Verf.-Referat
