Abstract

The 1986 Asian Junior Volleyball Championships were held in Bangkok during October. The daily temperatures were expected to range from approximately 24 to 31 degrees Celsius, whith relative humidity typically varying from 95 per cent in the early morning to 70 per cent at the hottest time of day. None of the match venues were air-conditioned. The Australian teams (male and female) attended a six-day training camp at the A.I.S. before departing for the tournament. They were to have only three full days in Bangkok prior to the commencement of competition. During the training camp, an attempt was made to acclimatise the male players to the environmental conditions expected to exist during the championship. Physiological responses to the relatively brief period of acclimatisation were monitored, and the observations form the basis of this article. Verf.-Referat
