Abstract

A review is given of factors regulating fatty acid (FA) mobilization from adipose tissue during exercise. Lipolysis is stimulated by sympathoadrenal factors and low plasma insulin concentration. The removal of free fatty acids (FFA) is promoted by an increased adipose tissue blood flow (ATBF). FA mobilization exceeds the uptake of the working muscles resulting in an increasing arterial FFA plasma concentration. The increased plasma FFA concentration will partly facilitate muscular utilization, partly increase re-esterification in adipose tissue. At FFA/albumin molar rations about 3, the vascular resistance of adipose tissue rises opposing the increase in ATBF. Thus FA mobilization is adjusted to the utilization in the working muscles at an increased plasma concentration. Effects of training on adipocyte function and lipoprotein-lipase activity are reviewed. Verf.-Referat
