Abstract
Sports related injuries can have far reaching psychological implications for the recreational athlete. Adaptive patterns and defensive organization can be threatened, opening the individual to anxiety and trauma. Loss of activity and disruption of daily routine may thwart movement towards goals and diminish sources of esteem. The nature of the psychological disturbance can be assessed through understanding the individuals personality type, stage of adult development and circumstances of the injury. Verf.-Referat
