Abstract des Autors
Cardiorespiratory responses to hanging upside down (inversion) were measured in 50 healthy young subjects. Measurements were taken at rest before and after inversion and for three minutes in the head-down position. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure increased significantly and remained significantly elevated during inversion. Heart rate decreased significantly and remained so during inversion. Respiratory response was unaffected except for a significant increase in oxygen uptake during the first two minutes of inversion. Individuals who use inversion devices should use caution, have blood pressure monitored, and avoid muscle strengthening exercises during inversion. Verf.-Referat
