Abstract

The author studied age of menarche in 992 young and adult women divided in two groups. In those aged less than 18 years median age obtained by probit analysis was 12.61 years. This corresponds to the results of other recent Hungarian studies. There were not any significant differences between the medians obtained for the studied events of sports either. In the group of women of above 18 years of age the arithmetic mean was calculated in addition to the median. The two values differed by about o,3 years. The female athletes of our days have their menarche 0,2 years earlier than those of two decades before, an evidence of continuing acceleration. The later menarche in adult athletic women is explained by selection based on the relationship between physique and maturation. Verf.-Referat
