Abstract

Five conclusions can be drawn from the results observed in this series: 1) there are no contraindications to magnetotherapy, even when external compressors are present; 2) as far as possible, the magnetic field should be applied to the area in which the external compressors are inserted as well as the wound itself; 3) the general use of antibiotics certainly serves no purpose, while local treatment may even be harmful; 4) healing times are considerably shortened, and the risk of sequelae, such as osteomyelitis, is virtually nonexistent; 5) the clinical and radiographical results we have obtained with this method are, in our experience, hard to achieve with other commonly employed orthopaedic methods or means.
