Abstract

The reproducibility of changes in heart rate, ventilation, oxygen consumption, temperature of the tympanic membrane, and acidity, lactate concentration, O2 and CO2 pressure in arterialized blood during an intensive bicycle ergometertest (70, 75, 80 ... 100 of the maximal aerobic work load) was studied in 4 women (20-30 tests, once a week on the same day and hour). The variance of the maximal attained external work load was about 5 in all subjects. There was a relationship between the course of several physiological variables during the test and the maximal attained work load. However, no effect of the menstrual cycle on the work performance could be shown. In conclusion, the well-known phenomenon in the sport to be in shape might correspond with the biological variance in the regulation of the function of organ systems. The menstrual cycle appears to have no distinct effect on that variance. Verf.-Referat
