Abstract

Much time and effort has been devoted to the search for the perfect golf swing and, concomitantly, to the search for the perfect teaching method. However, there is no one swing perfect for all players. Teachers and coaches must design the swing to fit the individual. In so doing three types of factors must be considered. Laws, those irrefutable and absolute factors which directly influence the ball flight; Principles, fundamental considerations which have a direct bearing on the players application of the laws; and preferences, particular methods or approaches which are preferable because of personal likes or dislikes of the teacher or because of players assets or liabilities. Preferences must not violate principles, and principles cannot violate the laws if the golf swing is to be effective. Examples of laws, principles and preferences are given and implications for designing and teaching the golf swing are presented. Verf.-Referat
