Abstract
The purpose of this investigation was to establish a regression equation for both males and females for predicting performances for the twelve minute runwalk test based on ml/kg/min. values, and then evaluate predictions made by these equations with predictions made by Coopers equation. subjects for this study were 150 volunteers (100 males, 50 females) between the ages of 18 and 29. Tests that each subject participated in were the Coopers twelve minute run-walk test and the Astrand-Ryhming bicycle test for predicting maximal oxygen uptake. The order of testing was randomly assigned so that all subjects did not take the same test first. Calculated correlations were: males, r = .90; females, r = .91; total group, r = .90. Based on the calculated data, the following regression equations were obtained for predicting performance inthe twelve minute run walk test based on ml/kg/min values: males, Y = 0.503 + 0.0269 X; females, Y = 0.342 + 0.0217 X; total group, Y = 0.341 + 0.0291 X. The regression equations for males and for the total group predict performances for the twelve minute run-walk test significantly higher than values provided by Coopers equation (Y = 0.3138 + 0.0278 X). Predictions by the regression equation based on data collected on female subjects are significantly different from predictions made by Coopers equation. Verf.-Referat
