Abstract

Three healthy, untrained subjects took part in three experiments designed to determine the influence of preceding heavy exercise on plasma FFA concentrations during subsequent low intensity (aerobic) exercise. In Experiment 1 the subjects exercised at approximately 80 V02 max for 45 minutes, and then rested for 75 minutes. In Experiment 2, the subjects exercised for 45 minutes at 80 max, after which the exercise intensity was reduced to 50 V02 max for 90 minutes. Experiment 3 involved continuous low intensity (50 V02 max) exercise for 135 minutes. Venus blood samples were analysed for plasma FFA, blood lactic acid and glucose concentrations. The contribution of fat to total metabolism was estimated from V02 and respiratory exchange ratios. The results of this study suggest that preceding heavy exercise does not markedly influence plasma FFA concentrations and fat metabolism duringsubsequentlow intensity (aerobic) exercise. Verf.-Referat
