Abstract

It is widely known that an alpine skier receives forces for a turn, an acceleration, or a deceleration of the skier by pushing on the snow surface. In this literature a simple two-dimensional model ("mono-ski model") that consists of a material particle and a rigid bar, as a skier and a ski respectively, has been proposed. And a numerical analysis on the run of the skier-ski system using this model has been carried out in the case that the ski moves along a straight line and a sine curve. From the results, it was found that skiing velocity depended on the action of the skier's center of mass. This analysis may be useful not only for alpine skiing but also for skating or snowboarding.
