Delayed splenic rupture is a potentially life-threatening sequela of blunt abdominal trauma. Team physicians and athletic trainers must recognize this condition because the mortality rate is 10% and acute deterioration is preceded by an asymptomatic period of latency after the initial trauma. This report of an amateur ice-hockey player with delayed splenic rupture illustrates the sudden seriousness of the condition. Verf.-Referat
