Abstract des Autors
Brain damage in boxing is a widely discussed subject, whereas in Dutch scientific literature a clear review does not exist. Original articles are studied to establish incidence and course of mortality as well as methods to detect and follow chronic brain damage. Conclusion is that little solid research has been done. The incidence of acute damage seems to be low in comparison with other sports. Another conclusion is that neuropsychological testing seems to be a good method to detect and follow chronic brain damage, which seems to be more present in professional boxers.
