Abstract
Although fatalities in organized boxing worldwide have averaged less than 10 a year from 1918 to june 1983, with only 28 identified from 1979 to 1985 (a decreasing rate), boxing continus to be attacked by those who wish to ban it. Studies of live boxers and the brains of former boxers since 1952 have demonstrated the significant relationship between number of bouts and presence of severe chronic encephalopathy, however, justifying serious concern about the present conduct of this sport.
