Abstract des Autors

The arrhythmic cardiac condition of athletes under observation for cardiopalmus symptomatology is described after a year of research. 51 athletes suffering from cardiopalmus fits were examined. All of them underwent an electrophysiological transesophageal examination - both basal and under stress. In 49 athletes it was possible to provoke an upper ventricular hyperkinetic arrhythmia. In 37 of these the arrhythmia was induced during basal tests and in all cases the arrhythmia wasn't steady. Steady upper ventricular hyperkinetic arrhythmia was, however, induced in all 49 patients when examined under stress. All the athletes recognized the arrhythmia induced under examination as being spontaneous. There were 37 cases of arrhythmia induced during basal examination - 6 were tachycardia with internodal re-entry, 12 with hidden Kent re-entry, 7 with atrial fibrillation, 6 with atrial flutter and 6 with atrial tachycardia. Having described the possible mechanisms which induce basal arrhythmia and those under stress, the authors would like to emphasize just how easy and advantageous this type of research is in the evaluation of the athlete with cardiopalmus.
