Abstract des Autors

A pilot study was carried out to investigate injuries incurred at a national wushu tournament. A simple check-off form was used to collect data on the nature, location and severity of the injury in young and adult male and female wushu athletes. The competition consisted of forms in various categories, semi-contact and full-contact sparring (sanda). The female semi-contact (100.0/1000 A-E; P<0.01) and the male full-contact athletes (150.0/1000 A-E; P<0.01) recorded a higher total injury rate than the male semi-contact competitors (48.61/1000 A-E). The dominant type of injury was the contusion in both male and female semi-contact athletes. The lower extremity seems to be injured most, while simultaneous blows and receiving a blow were the major mechanisms of injury. Verf.-Referat
