Abstract des Autors

The authors have analyzed 25 cases of ocular trauma due to sporting activity which were admitted to the Eye Department of the University of Turin between 1988 and 1992. They stress the importance of imaging methods of diagnosis, in particular, ocular echography. With this examination, in 18 out of the 25 patients they found specific ocular pathology where other methods failed to reveal them, and were able to confirm diagnosis of, or exclude the presence of further ocular complications in the other cases. Echography emerges from this study as a precise and fundamental examination method in the correct interpretation of the often complex pictures of post-traumatic ocular pathology from sporting activity.
