Abstract des Autors
The enhanced requirements of minerals, trace elements, and vitamins of extensively training athletes cannot be completed by increased food intake. Especially lowered magnesium concentrations were found in 36% of the 162 top female and 19% of the 229 top male athletes during the preparations for the Olympic Games and for the European Football Championships 1988. After special build-up training professional soccer players with lowered resting concentrations of magnesium showed no improved performance, but regular magnesium substitution leads to normal serum levels in hockey players despite extended training preparations. During these preparations components of the cellular immune system were investigated by flow cytometric analysis of lymphocyte subsets. 35% of the female and more than 50% of the male athletes showed increased total T-suppressor cells, and in 25% and 12%, respectively, decreased T-helper subsets were found. The results deductively indicate a preventive therapy by immunomodulators, the efficacy of which was proven by Multitest Merieux in hockey players under Esberitox therapy. Verf.-Referat
