Abstract des Autors

Studies were conducted on 12 rowers who trained for World Championships. Between January and November they were subjected seven times to laboratory exercises on rowing ergometer Concept II. Two types of exercises were applied: a maximal one, simulating the 2000 m-race, and a graded, submaximal one. The anaerobic threshold was significantly improved in the preparatory phase (March), and declined in the post-competition one (November). The increased anaerobic threshold was accompanied by a significant increase in physical fitness. A strong correlation was found between the mean power output in the exercise simulating the 2000 m-race and power output at the anaerobic threshold in both preparatory and competition periods. The correlation coefficients ranged from 0.59 to 0.86. This supports the view that high aerobic fitness is one of the principal factors determining the sport result in rowing. In the simulated 2000 m-race performed in the competition period, the anaerobic metabolism predominated and a higher efficiency of homeostasis was observed. Verf.-Referat
