Abstract
Muscle haematomas are very common sports injuries. They are the direct and inevitable outcome of strains and contusions. The latter are responsible for deep damage, usually close to the bone. The ultimate aim of treatment is reinstatement of normal muscle function (contractility, elasticity, strength) as far as possible through stimulation and promotion of both regeneration (reconstruction of muscle fibres) and repair (fibrosis), two processes that always coexist in the muscle environment. Attention is directed to five sequelae likely to follow an unfavourable course; liquid layers, cicatricial fibrosis, haemorrhagic cyst, myositis ossificans and calcifications. Verf.-Referat
