Abstract
The Dutch National Institute for Sports Health Care started a nationwide registration system of sports injuries, as registered by the Sports Medical Advisory Centres. On a voluntary basis, about half of these centres participated during the preliminary year 1988. The questionnaire contained information about personal characteristics, sports participation, characteristics of injury and medical treatment. The forms were processed by an optical mark reading device, thus reducing the costs of data entry. The reading procedure took about 32 hours for the number of 4708 forms. An elaborate error checking was carried out, after which the data were processed, using the statistical package SPSS. The usual rules concerning privacy were followed. Verf.-Referat
