Abstract
The modifications of cardiorespiratory and metabolic functions induced by increasing workloads on 18 football-players have been examined. The results obtained show a homogeneous and elevated aerobic capacity in all the subjects tested. The oxygen debt, therefore, also at the highest work load imposed (200Watt) is quite modest. The maximum oxygen consumption per minute (VO2 max), evaluated by extrapolation from VO2 and heart rate (HR) observed in the last two steps (150 and 200 watt) is over 80 ml|kg|min. The time to reach 50 of steady-state VO2 and HR (time constant) in each step, shows a high adaptability to the loads imposed and a very rapid recovery capacity of the functions considered.
