Abstract des Autors

The relationship between serum lipid concentrations and weekly training mileage was studied in 80 male runners who were 22 to 59 years of age. No significant difference in cholesterol or triglyceride levels was found when low-, moderate-, and high-mileage subgroups were compared, although as a group the runners had lower lipid levels than normally active controls. It appears that running 3 miles, three times a week for several years significantly lowers total blood lipids and that greater mileage does not substantially increase this effect. Verf.-Referat
