Zusammenfassung
The importance of physical activity is sometimes underestimated. A proper understanding of Exercise Physiology and its integration into exercise programs fitting everyone's needs, enables the prevention of some diseases and favours rehabilitation, while promoting health in general. Regular exercise brings multiple benefits to every individual, providing that it's suited to their specific characteristics. Physical activity enhances performance, metabolism and body constitution, both in health and disease (cardiovascular, metabolic, cancer) and enables us to minimize or to delay age-related impairment of several body functions. Thus, physical inactivity must be counteracted by promoting physical exercise in children as in adults, so they can adopt healthier lifestyles and minimize risk factors. The aim of this work is to review the fundamentals of Exercise Physiology and highlight the core points that should motivate us to fight the sedentary lifestyle and look for a better quality of life through physical activity.
