Abstract des Autors
In this chapter I address performance-enhancing substances (PES) use in professional baseball from multiple angles. Following an historical overview, I review studies on the physics of increased bat speed and faster pitches, thus shedding light on why players use PESs. I then discuss media portrayals as well as organizational and public policy actions, before moving to sections on the Mitchell Report and the Biogenesis case. (geändert)
