Abstract des Autors
This chapter examines the relationship between sports events and urban legacy by drawing upon both theoretical literature and empirical evidence from European cities. Specifically it examines urban legacies associated with hosting the Olympic Games. The first part of the chapter provides a historical overview of the Olympic Games and urban development, and examines the factors necessary for creating lasting positive urban legacies. The second part of the chapter focuses on a case study of London 2012 and how the Games have been used to create an urban legacy in East London. Throughout, the importance of business for sustaining urban legacies in the future is considered.
