Vorwort

This book contains the proceedings of the 4th International Congress on Sport Sciences Research and Technology Support (icSPORTS 2016), which is taking place in Porto, Portugal from 7 to 9 November 2016. icSPORTS is co-organized by the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana (FMH), the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH) and Porto Biomechanics Laboratory (LABIOMEP). icSPORTS 2016 is sponsored by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), Co-Sponsored by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and held in cooperation with the European Federation of Sport Psychology (FEPSAC), European Society of Biomechanics (ESB), Società Italiana delle Scienze Motorie e Sportive (SISMES), International Association of Computer Science in Sport (IACSS), European College of Sports and Exercise Physicians (ECOSEP), Portuguese Society of Physical Education (SPEF), Societá Italiana do Anatomia e Istologia (SIAI), European College of Sport Science (ECSS), Associação Portuguesa de Fisioterapeutas (APF), International Association of Sport Kinetics (IASK), European Association for Sport Management (EASM), European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA), European Society of Movement Analysis for Adults and Children (ESMAC), European Network of Sport Education (ENSE) and Grupo de Interesse em Fisioterapia do Desporto (GIFD). icSPORTS 2016 has also as R&D Groups partners the University of Lisbon (ULisboa), the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Porto Biomechanics Laboratory – University of Porto, SMART Lab - George Mason University, SABEL Labs - Sports and Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of Griffith University, Queensland Sports Technology Cluster, Sport Technology Research Laboratory - University of Calgary and the Faculty of Human Kinetics. The Congress Technical Program includes oral presentations (full papers, short papers, and extended abstracts) and poster presentations, organized in four simultaneous tracks: “Signal Processing and Motor Behavior”, “Sports Medicine and Support Technology”, “Health, Sports Performance and Support Technology” and “Computer Systems in Sports”. All full papers as well as all short papers are included in this book of proceedings. The congress includes also a thematic session organized by specialized researchers namely a Round Table entitled “Technology in Sports: from Recreational Practice to the Olympic Games - Perspectives for 2020” A major aspect of the program is the inclusion of a set of three plenary keynote lectures, given by internationally distinguished researchers, namely: Jim Richards (Allied Health Research unit, University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom); Carlo Capelli, (Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Norway) and Andy Harland (Loughborough University, United Kingdom). icSPORTS received 53 submissions from all continents, of which 26% are presented as full papers. To evaluate each submission, a blinded review was performed by the Program Committee, whose members are highly qualified researchers in icSPORTS topic areas. A short list of papers presented at the congress will be selected for publication of extended and revised versions in the Sports Engineering Journal. All papers and extended abstracts presented at this congress will be available at the SciTePress Digital Library. Congresses are also meeting places where collaborative projects can emerge from social contacts amongst the participants. Therefore, in order to promote the development of research and professional networks, the congress includes in its social program a Social Event & Banquet in the evening of November 8. We would like to express our thanks to all participants. First of all, to the authors, whose quality work is the essence of this congress. Secondly, to all members of the Program Committee and Auxiliary Reviewers, who helped us with their expertise and valuable time. We would also like to thank the invited speakers for their excellent contribution in sharing their knowledge and vision. Finally, a word of appreciation for the hard work of the secretariat: organizing a congress of this level is a task that can only be achieved by the collaborative effort of a dedicated and highly capable team. We wish you all an inspiring congress and an unforgettable stay in the lovely region of Porto, Portugal. We hope to meet you again next year in Funchal, Madeira for icSPORTS 2017, details of which will soon be available at http://www.icsports.org
