Abstract des Autors
Research on the ancient and modem Olympic Games and on the Olympic Movement with its multi-layered facets has enjoyed and still is enjoying a great popularity. This is above all true for sport history, which belongs to one of the oldest disciplines in study programmes on sport and physical education in higher education. German scholars have contributed much to the analysis of the Olympic worlds of ancient and modem times. This article aims at presenting some of the publications that can be counted as seminal. The article concludes with some critical remarks on the situation of sport history at departments of sport at German universities and the German Sport University Cologne.
