Abstract

Discovery and comprehension of new technologies through sport training theory and didactics is the most important function of sport science. The research was carried out to establish elite coaches’ work tendencies when training high performance athletes for supreme competitions – the Olympic Games. The goal of the work was to reveal tendencies of organization, methodical and scientific training management of the first year (2013) of Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games cycle as well as to compare it to peculiarities of the last year (2012) of London Olympic cycle. 21 coach (2012) and 25 coaches (2013), who worked with athletes from Olympic teams, participated in questionnaire poll. These methods were applied: questionnaire poll, coaches’ report analysis, and interview. Research results lead to formulating following conclusions: 1. Indices of elite coaches’ work that were related to organization, training load strategy, and management components of the first Olympic cycle year did not essentially differ from the ones recorded in the last Olympic years. The area related to medical and scientific supply stays topical and does not satisfy coaches: statistically significantly fewer coaches stated scientific and medical supply program to be formed, proper medical and scientific care in training camps to be provided, and effective information from medics to be received. The tendency of diminishing athletes supply with medicine and non-traditional means application in training process has been established. 2. Elite coaches’ scientific-methodical work changes are obvious: the number of coaches, who attended scientific conferences, seminars, and discussions and named received information as useful, thus, prerequisite of higher coaches’ competency that leads to management of sport training process under scientific basis can be formed. 3. Negative tendencies of technical supply are more specific to the first Olympic cycle years than, as compared, to the last year of London Olympic cycle: athletes did not receive enough special inventory and equipment of high quality; Lithuanian Olympic Sport Centre did not provide proper conditions to train; cities sport departments provided less as well. 4. Aiming at better preparation for following year cycle, more intensive scientific and medical care, informative feedback on research results, and definite recommendations are needed, as well as application of diverse non-traditional means in the training process and better athletes supply with recovery means, higher coaches interest in qualification improvement, more specific anticipation and guarantee for finances to implement athlete’s training plan-model.
