Postural control is regarded as the basis of free movement. Leg movement – standing on tiptoes or heels and raising one leg – offset balance due shifted centre of gravity. The cerebellum plays an important role in maintaining postural control. The following was observed in cerebellar patients: Greater centre of pressure (COP) deviation in cerebellar patients in upright stance; the inability to respond adequately to deviation along with a tendency to over-respond in postural movement; and worse results while maintaining balance when sensoric information was missing or distorted. Our goal was to follow dynamic COP changes in ataxic patients in toe standing position with the help of the multisensoric FOOTSCAN platform, in comparison with health controls, and to find parameters which distinguish this group. 17 patients with AD SCA were examined as well as 10 health checks. Differences in the confidence ellipsis area and in medio-lateral axis values were statistically significant. It would be worthwhile to compare and correlate findings with the clinical scale results of ataxic patients before considering positive uses in clinical application. Changes in ataxic patient motion strategy were observed, as the group mainly shifted weight to one leg, and either did not use, or did not have, a specific motion strategy. It was determined that the average traveled distance or TTW value was higher among AD SCA patients, but the difference was not significant when compared with the control group.
