Abstract des Autors

The study issued from the hypothesis on the developmental coordination disorder (DCD) of children as the factor which can limit their physical activity and increase the risk of overweight and obesity. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between motor difficulties and the excessive body weight in Czech
7–10years old children, and if this association is affected by gender. 9.4 ± 1.0 years old children (n = 404, 213 boys, 191 girls) from twelve Czech schools selected
on the random basis were assessed on motor proficiency using the test battery MABC-2 (Henderson et al., 2007), and the body mass index (BMI) according to the age and gender-adjusted norms (Vignerová et al., 2001). In spite of the non-significant difference of BMI in the children with and without motor difficulties,
the higher incidence of the excessive body weight in children with motor difficulties
was found (29.4 % vs. 18.3 %). The study suggested that DCD can be the risk for the excessive body weight as early as the younger school age, and this risk can be increased with a progressive age, likely due to lowering physical activity since the pre-pubescence to pubescence. Verf.-Referat
